Planning and Planting Your Summer Garden

with Ann Naffziger, Alameda County Master Gardener

Monday, May 12, 2014
6:30 – 7:30 PM
Rhythmix Cultural Works, 2513 Blanding Avenue, Alameda

This talk will cover the basics you need to know for growing a fresh summer bounty. It will include information about what fruits and vegetables grow best in Alameda’s climate (tomatoes – yes, watermelon – no), space considerations, and discussion about those that need trellising or support. We’ll consider how to amend your soil before planting, and discuss the merits of starting with seeds or seedlings.

Speaker: Ann Naffziger is an Alameda County Master Gardener who has been growing food in her front and back yards in Alameda for 10 years. She raises chickens and bees and two young girls who are her unpaid farm hands. She is always looking for ways to cram more food into her organic garden to feed those helpers.
