Growing tomatoes in Alameda can be challenging. Salt air, foggy days and nights, sandy soil and cool temperatures don’t add up to most tomatoes’ favorite environment. But with careful variety selection and creative gardening practices, you can be much happier with your tomato harvest. Evan Krokowski, farm coordinator for Farm2Market, the job-training program, farm and CSA of Alameda Point Collaborative, will share his tips and tricks for tomato success in our island city. Please bring your own cultivation suggestions and questions, and we’ll have a great discussion. If you have a favorite tomato cultivar for growing in Alameda, please bring its name to share with your fellow gardeners.
