Introduction to Integrated Pest Management

June 13, 2016, 6:30 – 7:30 pm

Rhythmix Cultural Works, 2512 Blanding Ave., Alameda

Come and learn about Integrated Pest Management with Birgitt Evans, Alameda County Master Gardener and co-owner of Pollinate Farm & Garden in Oakland. Using the Precautionary Principal, learn how to reduce pest damage starting with the least toxic method first.

Learn how to apply the principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to prevent and solve pest problems in your garden, while minimizing risks to people and the environment. We will learn how to inspect plants for damage, correctly identify pest damage, set thresholds for dealing with the damage and implement an integrated set of control methods to prevent or deal with intolerable levels of damage.  We will learn about pest life cycles and how to thwart pests with both the timing of our plantings and cultural practices as well as how to actually eliminate pest populations.

About our speaker:  Birgitt Evans is an Alameda County Master Gardener, and the co-owner of Pollinate Farm and Garden Supply, as well as the treasurer of Alameda Backyard Growers.  Birgitt has grown her own food in Alameda for nearly 30 years, successfully managing the pests that particularly plague our island city.
