Since ABG’s inception, Marla Koss has been a Board member and critical volunteer. She’s been incredibly valuable on many fronts, but is perhaps most visible as our fruit tree expert. Marla writes about fruit tree care for us regularly and is chief instructor for our fruit tree pruning workshops.
Marla has put her passion for orchards and her fruit tree expertise to work for another Alameda non-profit too. In May, Alameda Point Collaborative presented Marla Koss with their 2024 APC Volunteer of the Year Award.
Here’s how Johnny Bootlace, Farm2Market’s Farm Manager described Marla’s contributions:
“For the last three years Alameda Point Collaborative’s Farm2Market has been blessed by the presence of one of the most hardworking, passionate, and brilliant orchardists in Alameda, Marla Koss. Marla came to us three years ago when the farm’s 100 fruit tree orchard was overgrown and needed care and attention. She has led a crew of dedicated volunteers to bring the fifteen-year-old trees back to life with expertise and thoughtfulness that has transformed the farm. Our trees are thriving and bountiful and the orchard is once again a place our community can access for food and peace of mind. Marla is a true educator and has trained many master orchardists at Farm2Market who are now also part of the weekly volunteer group that takes care of the trees.”
Congratulations, Marla! Well-deserved!
