Alameda Backyard Growers coordinates two community projects which support our mission to “grow some, keep some, give some away”.
ABG volunteers launched the Alameda Fruit Gleaning Initiative in June 2011. This successful project gives residents with fruit trees three options for collecting and donating unused fruit for distribution to food bank clients. In December 2012, we renamed our gleaning initiative Project Pick.
ABG also coordinates the Grow A Row for the Food Bank project which began in February 2011 with seeds donated by Renee’s Garden. ABG members continue to share seeds and starts with the intention of “growing a row” for the food bank.
